Wade Reynoso and Josh Slaats get baseball honors

March 8, 2010--New Mexico State third baseman Wade Reynoso and Hawai'i pitcher Josh Slaats have been named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for March 1-7

Reynoso, a senior from Redwood City, Calif. (Sequoia HS), helped New Mexico State to a 4-2 record last week. Reynoso batted .522 and registered a 1.000 slugging percentage over the six games. He went 12-for-23 at the plate with 16 RBI, 11 runs scored, four walks, two doubles and three home runs. In a win over New Mexico, Reynoso recorded a season-high six at bats, a season-high four hits and a season-high six RBI in a 17-8 victory.

Slaats, a junior from San Ramon, Calif. (California HS), threw a complete game shutout in a seven-inning win over The Citadel. Slaats allowed just two hits with one walk and seven strikeouts. The junior took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, pitching 5.2 no-hit innings before allowing his first hit of the game. Slaats had one strikeout in each inning pitched during the game, posting a new career high with seven strikeouts overall.

The other hitter of the week nominations: Hawai'i sophomore second baseman Kolten Wong . Louisiana Tech sophomore first baseman Alex Williams. Nevada junior infielder/outfielder Nick Leid.
