Karson Klauer and Matt Morse get Player of the Week honors

March 15, 2010--San Jose State second baseman Karson Klauer and Fresno State pitcher Matt Morse have been named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for March 8-14.

Klauer, a senior from Hollister, Calif. (San Benito HS), earned tournament MVP honors after leading the Spartans to the inaugural Jack Gifford Memorial championship. He started all five games last week as San Jose State went 4-1, including a 3-1 mark in the tournament that included a 7-4 triumph over UC Davis in the championship game. Klauer hit a team-best .476 (10-for-21) with team highs of six runs and 10 RBI. He hit two doubles and his first home run of 2010.

Morse, a senior from Glendora, Calif. (Glendora HS), threw his second career complete game shutout against No. 26 Cal State Fullerton in the opening game of the San Diego State Tournament. The senior limited the Titans to four hits and two walks while striking out three batters. Morse was named to the all-tournament team after the Bulldogs were named tri-champions of the tournament.
