Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston Elect Dr. Lawrence Cohn to Board of Overseers

On October 4, 2011, Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston held their 117th Annual Meeting. Two Directors and 15 Overseers were elected to the Board, including Dr. Lawrence Cohn, a resident of Chestnut Hill.

Dr. Lawrence Cohn is a Senior Cardiac Surgeon for Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he has been on staff since 1971. Dr. Cohn also is a Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School. In 2000, he was awarded the Virginia and James Hubbard Chair in Cardiac Surgery, the first endowed Chair in Cardiac Surgery at Harvard Medical School. He is the current editor of the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and has published more than 440 scientific articles, 105 book chapters and 12 books. He serves as Physician Director of Medical Device Technology for Partners HealthCare Systems, is the Chair of the Physician and Scientist Fundraising Group at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and is a Board Member of the Boston Public Library. Dr. Cohn has been awarded an honorary Masters of Medicine from Harvard University, a Doctor Honoris Causa from the University of Paris, and in 2005 was the recipient of the Paul Dudley White Award, the highest award given by the American Heart Association. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Berkley, received his M.D. from Stanford School of Medicine (AOA) and finished residencies in surgery at Boston City Hospital, National Heart Institute, University of California San Francisco School and Stanford University.
