ROXBURY, Mass.–Leave the stress of the modern world behind and immerse yourself in the enchantment of the Victorian and Edwardian eras with musicians/historians Jim and Maggi Dalton. Experience the charm and elegance of the beautiful grand hall of Roxbury's Shirley-Eustis House, where the Daltons will present a special concert program, “Cold is the Nightwind: A Victorian Christmas" on Dec. 11, 2011 at 1 p.m. The Shirley-Eustis House is located at 33 Shirley Street, Roxbury, Mass. The Daltons will perform songs and stories, lead period parlor games, and share historical perspective on the Victorian and Edwardian eras in a family-friendly program of Christmas and holiday music. All ages, including children, are welcome! Jim and Maggi also will be signing copies of their new CD "Cold is the Nightwind: A Victorian Christmas" after the concert.
Royal Governor William Shirley's Georgian mansion is the only remaining country house in America built by a British Royal Colonial Governor. This imposing design is attributed to Peter Harrison, "America's first architect."

Tickets for this special event will be $10.00 for the general public, visitors and guests and $7.00 for Shirley-Eustis House members. Space is limited so please call in advance to reserve your seat at 617-442-2275 or email governorshirley@gmail.com. Dressing in period costume is also encouraged although not required!
Previous audiences have found the Daltons to be "engaging, scholarly, delightful, warm, intelligent, flexible, humorous, talented, versatile, enthusiastic, personable, and joyful." The couple specializes in American 19th- and 20th-century music, history, and culture from parlor and stage, performed in historically-informed style. Their programs also feature period and period-appropriate instruments. They will release two new CDs in 2011.
The Calvin Coolidge Historical Site/Plymouth Folk & Blues Concerts stated, "Simply put, Jim and Maggi Dalton are a national treasure." The Daltons have toured nationwide and have been featured often on commercial and NPR public radio, on television and in major-market newspapers and magazines. As artists-in-residence at various community and educational centers, they have presented series which address American history and various other topics in the humanities, using music as the core of each session. Maggi Dalton's most recent book, Stories and Shadows from Salem's Past: Naumkeag Notations was published by The History Press in 2010, and both Daltons write for a weekly column on Salem history in the Boston Globe.
Jim and Maggi Dalton are founders and directors of the American History and Music Project, and the Salem History Society, both of which are administered by the Institute for Music, History, and Cultural Traditions, a 501c3 Nonprofit Cultural, Educational, & Scholarly Organization.
The Shirley-Eustis House, built by Massachusetts Royal Governor William Shirley in 1747 and later the home of Democratic-Republican Governor William Eustis in 1819 is located on 33 Shirley Street in Roxbury, Massachusetts.
