Coach Dave Flint of Northeastern Women's Ice Hockey Agrees to Contract Extension
Northeastern University Director of Athletics Peter Roby announced today that Dave Flint has agreed to a contract extension to remain as the university’s women’s ice hockey head coach through the 2015-16 season.
“I am excited to announce this contract extension for Dave,” Roby said. “His program has continued to improve each year and competes at a national level. His leadership and commitment to our student-athletes is very much appreciated.”
Entering his fourth season as head coach, Flint has led a women’s hockey renaissance on Huntington Ave., restoring the Huskies to their familiar spot at the top of the sport. Last season, the Huskies vaulted as high as No. 9 in the national rankings, and made it to the Hockey East finals for the first time in program history.
“I’m grateful to Peter Roby and Northeastern for the confidence they have shown in me and am excited about the direction the women’s hockey program is heading,” Flint said. “I look forward to many more successful years at Northeastern.”
Flint also brings considerable international experience to the Matthews Arena ice. He won a silver medal as an assistant coach for the U.S. women’s ice hockey team at the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver. No stranger to USA Hockey, he’s served on the coaching staff since 2005. In 2008, he was appointed the goaltending coach and advisor for the women’s national program, where he evaluates and instructs goaltenders at all levels. Flint also served as an assistant coach to the U.S. Select Team that participated in the Four Nations Cup in 2009.
Last month, Northeastern was one of just 41 universities nationally to be honored with a U.S. Olympic Achievement Award. The honor, which recognizes those colleges and universities whose student-athletes and coaches have won Olympic medals, was awarded as a result of Flint’s silver medal performance in Vancouver.
Flint, who coached for four seasons at St. Anselm prior to arriving at Northeastern, has a career record of 116-48-13.
