David Walberg Named UMass Boston's Sports Information Director
Walberg took over the UMass Boston sports information operation in mid August and will serve as the primary media contact for all sports. His responsibilities include the promotion of the 18 Division III varsity sports, upkeep and maintenance of the Beacons official Athletics homepage (www.beaconsathletics.com) as well as social media outlets, game management, media guide production and any written content regarding UMass Boston athletics.
“I am extremely pleased with the outcome of our search process that had so many outstanding candidates,” said Titus. “David Walberg brings a wealth of experience to the position. He has a reputation as a tireless worker and certainly is very familiar with our conference and the New England sports scene. I believe he is a good fit for us and welcome him to the team.”
Before his hire at UMass Boston, Walberg served as the Sports Information Director at Albright College in Reading, PA for three years where he was responsible for the coverage of 23 varsity sports. Prior to his tenure at Albright, Walberg spent two years at Elmira College serving as the Sports Information Graduate Assistant while also completing his Masters of Science from the School of Education and Professional Studies.
Walberg is no stranger to the Little East Conference as he completed his undergraduate studies at Eastern Connecticut State University, graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Sports and Leisure Management to go along with a Communications minor.
While at Eastern Connecticut State, Walberg was a member of the Men’s Varsity Soccer Team for three seasons (2002, 2004-05) and helped lead the squad to a Little East Conference tournament berth in 2005. He also worked as a Sports Information Student Assistant as well as an Equipment Management Intern for the Warriors.
“I’m very thankful for the opportunity to join such an energetic staff,” said Walberg. “UMass Boston is a great fit and I’m looking forward to promoting Beacons athletics and working again with the Little East Conference.”
The UMass Boston Athletic Department would like to congratulate and welcome David to the Beacon family.
