Whitley Bird Performs Senior Recital

University of the Cumberlands (UC) student Whitley (Wells) Bird performed her senior vocal recital on Saturday, March 24 at the recital hall on the UC campus. Bird, a mezzo-soprano, sang 14 songs, including “Handel’s Messiah,” “When You Believe” from the movie “Prince of Egypt” and “Dying Belinda.” Bird’s faith led her to UC several years ago. “I chose UC because I felt it was where God wanted me,” said Bird. “I loved that it was a Baptist school and all of the people were so nice.” Although Bird’s major is in art, she has been very active in music at UC, singing in chorale and various other programs. Still, she plans to pursue a career teaching high school art. “I chose art because I love doing it, learning, and teaching about it,” said Bird.

Bird will graduate this May with a B.A. in art and a minor in music. She will continue her studies in the UC graduate education program, where she will pursue a Master of Arts in Teaching. After graduation she plans to pursue a career in teaching high school art. Bird is the wife of Jeremy Bird and the daughter of Brenda and James Cordial. She is from Louisa, Ky.
