Mitchell College takes two from Lesley with resounding NECC sweep

Lesley University (7-22, 3-10 NECC) lost to Mitchell College (7-16, 6-8 NECC) 12-1 in Game 1 and 14-2 in Game 2 of Saturday's New England Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Trum Field.Lesley's Tyler Plourd (Canton, CT/Canton) went 2-for-3 with a run scored in Game 1 and 2-for-4 with a pair of singles in Game 2.Mitchell's Nick Carlson (Old Lyme, CT/Lyme-Old Lyme) homered as the second batter of the day, setting the tone for his monster opener in which the Mariners shortstop went 4-for-5 with three runs scored to lead his offense's 12-run attack.Leading 4-1 in the sixth, Mitchell added four more thanks to four Lesley errors in the inning, with a Gavin LaLima (Waterford, CT/Waterford) single plating two as the Mariners extended the lead to 8-1. The visitors posted four more on six hits in the seventh, with LaLima driving in one on a groundout and Carlson doubling home a run, and the Mariners went on to win 12-1.LaLima totaled two RBI's, and designated hitter Drew Doyle (Mystic, CT/Fitch) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Second baseman Tommy Derosier (Brooklyn, NY/Killingly) drove in a pair as the No. 9 hitter in the win. Freshman Justin Lemanski (New Britain, CT/Goodwin Tech) picked up the win, going seven innings, allowing only five hits and striking out six.Lynx starter Greg Anglin (Milton, MA/Milton) went six innings, allowing six earned and striking out two.In the nightcap, the Mariners put three runs on the board in the first and second and took a 10-1 lead after three. Carlson scored in each of the first two innings, and Evan Peck (Shelton, CT/Shelton) singled and scored in both innings before a Derosier two-run double to right made it a 10-1 game.Lesley designated hitter Andrew Colon (Chelsea, MA/Chelsea) singled and scored on a Robert Parson (Commack, NY/Commack) ground ball, but the Mariners tacked on three more in the sixth to go up 14-1. Lesley got one back in the seventh, as Parson singled, stole second and scored from third on a wild pitch, closing out Mitchell's 14-2 Game 2 victory.Colon went 2-for-2 with a run, and Parson went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.Mariners starter Mike Sturges (New Britain, CT/New Britain) went seven innings, allowing six hits, two earned runs and struck out six for the win.Lynx lefty Ryan Genua (Prospect, CT/Woodland) allowed nine earned in his 5 and 2/3 innings pitched, and senior reliever Noah Shaw fanned two in 1 and 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.
