COLLIN COLLEGE OFFERS NEW AAS DEGREE IN MEETINGS AND EVENT MANAGEMENT
Beginning in fall 2012, Collin College will offer a new Associate of Arts degree in Meetings and Event Management through the college’s Institute of Hospitality and Culinary Education (IHCE).
The new AAS degree, which takes 64 credits to complete, compliments a Meetings and Event Management certificate program that Collin College has offered for the past five years.
Among the new courses included in the associate degree in Meetings and Event Management are “International Meetings and Conventions,” “Group Tour Operations” and a required internship (cooperative work experience).
“We are very excited to offer this program to our students,” Professor Karen Musa, ICHE chair, said. “It gives the hospitality students an option of choosing a different track other than hotel and restaurant management. We have a well-rounded degree that gives the students an appreciation and understanding of the industry.”
According to Musa, students who earn an associate degree in Meetings and Event Management can obtain positions at hotels in sales or convention services or work with the social, military, educational, religious and fraternal (SMERF) market.
