Trinity Skates Past Stonehill, 4-2

The Stonehill College men's ice hockey lost to Trinity College, 4-2, in non-conference action on Saturday evening at Spurrier-Snyder Rink on the campus of Wesleyan University. Skyhawks senior forward Sean McNeil (Canton, Mass./Canton) opened up the scoring three minutes and 17 seconds into the second period and junior forward Bryan Rooney (Canton, Mass./New Hampton School) netted his team-leading seventh marker of the season at 9:41 of the stanza to account for Stonehill's scoring. Freshman forward Willy Baker (Suffern, N.Y./Hill School) set up McNeil's second goal of the year while defensemen Brendan Greene (Weymouth, Mass.) and J.J. Sabin (Milton, Mass./Tilton School) were credited with assists on Rooney's tally. Trinity senior forward Zachary Lombardi (Locust Valley, N.Y.) tied up the contest with his fourth goal of the season at the 19:44 mark of the second period. Classmate Jeffrey Menard (Burlington, Mass./Governor's Academy) potted the game-winning goal at 9:13 of the third period, his first of the season, and sophomore forward Jackson Brewer (Newton, Mass./Rivers) added an empty net goal with 15-seconds remaining. Lombardi also jumpstarted the Bantams offense in the second period with their first goal of the night at 4:26. Sophomore netminder Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Mass./Thayer Academy) made 30 saves for the Skyhawks including 13 in the third stanza. Trinity goaltender Benjamin Coulthard (South Windsor, Conn./Pomfret) turned aside 37 shots (15 in first period). The Bantams went 2-for-5 on the power play while their counterparts went 1-for-3. Stonehill (4-5-0, 2-0-0 NE-10) takes on Wesleyan University tomorrow at Spurrier-Snyder Rink with opening faceoff scheduled for 4 p.m. Trinity (2-0-1, 1-0-1 NESCAC) plays SUNY Canton at Wesleyan University at 1 p.m.*Stonehill Athletics
