Becker Downs Stonehill, 6-3
Becker college scored four goals in the second period and skated to a 6-3 victory over Stonehill college in a non-conference ice hockey matchup at the Foxboro Sports Center tonight.
Senior Branden Parkhouse (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) scored five goals, including three second period goals, and dished out an assist to lead the Hawks. Fellow senior David Graham (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) scored the game-winning goal and earned two assists for Becker, who also got two assists from Cody Edwards (Kansas City, Mo.) and one assist from Korby Anderson (Owatonna, Minn.).
Freshman Goaltender Gregg Hussey (Medford, Mass.) posted 24 saves and earned the win for Becker. Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Mass.) started and recorded 27 saves for the Skyhawks as Stonehill was outshot 33-27. Becker went 2-5 on the power-play, while Stonehill finished 0-6 with the extra-man.
Three freshman scored goals for Stonehill, with Scott Rolph (Bow, N.H.) recording his first career goal, classmate Dan Graham (Billerica, Mass.) extending his scoring streak to five games with a goal, and Richard Harris (Grand Island, N.Y.) netting his fifth goal of the year to go with an assist. Sophomore Kevin Aufiero (Canton, Mass.) and freshmen Robbie Dorgan (Ossining, N.Y.), Willy Baker (Suffern, N.Y.), and Thomas DePoalo (Mendham, N.J.) also added assists for the Skyhawks.
Stonehill jumped out to a first period lead when Rolph potted a goal 12:14 into the game, assisted by Harris and Baker. The Skyhawks extended their lead to 2-0 early in the second when Graham scored on a rebound off of a shot by Aufiero.
Becker bounced back just 25 seconds later, when Parkhouse jammed home his first goal of the night after a Tasiopoulos save. He added his second goal at 9:24 of the evening on assists from Graham and Edwards. At 14:11 Parkhouse earned the hat-trick when he finished the rebound off of an Anderson bid.
The Skyhawks launched a comeback bid in the middle of the third when Dorgan found an open Harris to make it 4-3 with 11:29 remaining. Becker capitalized on a 2-man advantage when Parkhouse scored his fourth of the game at 11:36 of the third. He added an empty netter with 55 seconds remaining to clinch it for the Hawks.
Stonehill (7-10-0) will travel to Rindge, New Hampshire to take on Franklin Pierce in a NE-10 Conference matchup on Saturday, January 19th at 7:00 pm. The Skyhawks return home to the Foxboro Sports Center on Wednesday, January 23rd to host Assumption College. Becker College faces Salve Regina at home on January 19th.
