Elizabeth Seton Academy Students Receive Operation Progress Scholarships

By ESA_PR

Dorchester, Mass. – ESA students Alexandria Chowdhury and Adrienne Hawk were each awarded a $20,000 scholarship from the Operation Progress Foundation during a luncheon at the Boston Harbor Hotel on April 21. Police Commissioner Ed Davis presented Alexandria and Adrienne with the awards, which will contribute to their first two years of college.

Alexandria plans to attend either Suffolk University or Simmons College to pursue a career as a math teacher. In addition to the Operation Progress scholarship, she also received the Marybeth Anderson Memorial Scholarship, which is a $10,000 grant toward the recipient’s higher education. Adrienne, who aspires to be a cardiologist, plans on attending St. Leo University in Florida. She received the Eleanor Ann Doherty Memorial Scholarship, also a $10,000 award over the course of the recipient’s four-year college career.

Established in Los Angeles by police officer John Coughlin, who was born and raised in Boston, the Operation Progress Foundation aims to keep students out of trouble, off the streets and on the path to higher education after their high school years. Richard Coughlin of Scituate became the executive director of the organization’s Boston Board of Directors. Since 2000, Operation Progress has awarded 35 scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $80,000 to inner-city students in Los Angeles and Boston. Visit the organization’s website at www.operationprogress.org for more information.

Opened in 2003 in response to the need for a Catholic high school serving the urban areas of Boston, Elizabeth Seton Academy is the only all-girls Catholic high school within the Dorchester, Roxbury, and South Boston communities. ESA’s mission is to provide an affordable, college-preparatory high school education to young women who might not otherwise be able to acquire one. With a 100% college acceptance rate, ESA believes it enables its students to discover, develop, and implement their numerous talents and awesome potential to move into the future with a hope and confidence that is born of a strong moral and rigorous academic education.
